Update March 4, 2010

NEWS & INFORMATION:

  • Professional Conferences: Karen Tashman will be attending the NAASE Conference (North American Association of Synagogue Executives) next week in Houston, Texas. She will resume regular office hours on Monday, March 15. Rabbi Jonathan will be attending the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association Convention, the week of March 14-18 in New Orleans, LA.
  • Rabbi Jonathan: will be away this weekend celebrating a family simcha.
  • Thank you: To Bennett Neiman, Carol Fox Prescott, Bonnie Meadow, Jonah Triebwasser and the WJC Purim Players for all their efforts in putting together and performing in last weekend’s PurimShpiel. A good time was had by all!

THIS WEEKEND:

  • First Friday Shabbat, Potluck & Jewish Selected Shorts: Join us on Friday, March 5 at 6pm for a delightful Shabbat service, led by Zoe B. Zak, and dairy/vegetarian potluck Shabbat dinner, followed by: “Jewish Selected Shorts”, a dramatic and entertaining live reading of Jewish short stories. “Jewish Selected Shorts” series concludes with a reading of three short stories by the Israeli writer Rikudah Potash:  G'ula and Shulamit, Pirkhah Ozeri, and "Shraby's Daughter Comes Home, from her collection "In the Alleys of Jerusalem."  Reading them will be Sophia Downs, a professional actor who has appeared on Law & Order and in various independent films. Written in Yiddish, these stories tell of the experiences of women and girls from the Arab-Jewish community as they grow up and form relationships with Jews from Europe and experience an Israel so very different from the lives of their traditional Mizrahi and Sephardi parents. Our potluck events are community meals where everyone is asked to bring a healthy entrée or salad to feed 6-8 people. As with all of the WJC community potlucks - we encourage everyone to "think green" by bringing their own re-usable dishes and cutlery for use at the dinner.
  • Making G_D Real through Contemplative Meditation on the Weekly Torah Portion: Join Gail Albert in the Library on Saturday morning, 9am-10am, before Shabbat morning services.
  • Shabbat: Services begin at 10am and will be led by Zoe B. Zak. Parshat Ki Tisa. D’var Torah presented by Ellen Triebwasser.
  • Family School: It’s a Family Day program for our Family School classes. Classes will meet on Sunday, March 7 beginning at 9:30am.
