NEWS & INFORMATION:
- Silent Appeal Update: Thanks to all of you who have responded. As of this week, we have achieved 84% of our goal! We are almost there. Rosh Hashanah begins Wednesday evening. If you have not yet participated, please make your Silent High Holy Day Appeal donation/pledge today. Together we will reach our goals.
- Place Your Lulav/Etrog Order: Just a few days left to place your order for aLulav and Etrog set for Sukkot! A fun and easy mitzvah to perform. $36 each. Must be received in the synagogue office by Tuesday, September 7.
- Book of Remembrance: This annual Book of Remembrance serves to honor those we love and miss, and is distributed on Yom Kippur. To have the names of your loved ones memorialized in this year’s Book, please download Book of Remembrance Form and send it in, along with your donation, no later than Tuesday, September 7.
- HHD Volunteering: Remember it takes lots of volunteers to make our High Holy Days happen. Help is needed on setup day, Labor Day, Monday, September 6 from 9am-3pm. as well as throughout the holidays. THIS WEEKEND:
- Early Shabbat & Gallery Opening: Services begin at 6pm. After our early Shabbat, the Woodstock Jewish Congregation will have an opening reception for its firstsilent art auction to be held in Gallery Lev Shalem within the synagogue building. From 7pm to 8:30pm you will have an opportunity to appreciate the artwork. The auction will close on Sunday, October 24, 1-3, when the final bids will be accepted and a closing reception will be held to celebrate. If you can’t make it to the opening, then come by anytime from Monday to Thursday 9 am-5 pm, Friday from 9 am-4 pm, and Sunday by appointment. Enter your bid in the silent auction book and be sure to check on it weekly – you don’t want to miss the excitement building up! Support the arts, the Woodstock Jewish Congregation and add something wonderful to your home or office.
- Shabbat Morning: Services begin at 10am. D’var Torah will be presented by Gwen Tapper. Parshat Nitzavim-Vayeilech. Kiddush is sponsored by Gwen in memory of her father, David Tapper.
- Selichot: Saturday evening, September 4 from 10:30pm – midnight is our Selichot ceremony, a ritual of preparation for Rosh Hashanah that we have adapted into a very personal and powerful time of reflection. Everyone is welcome.

COMING UP ON THE CALENDAR:
- Challah Baking Workshop: Save the date ~ Sunday, September 12, 10:30am ~ Messy fun, and fresh challah for the holiday. It’s the twenty first annual, A turning flour, yeast, and honey into a bite of heaven@ workshop. Diane Colello will once again lead this fun, hands-on class which you leave with 2 loaves of ready to bake challah and the skills to make more. People of all ages can happily participate, kneading and schmoozing and having a good time.
Pre-registration is imperative since Diane will be buying ingredients in advance. The cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. Two or three people may work together on a batch (2 loaves worth) and pay only a single fee. Each participant, or partnership, will need to bring:
§ a large mixing bowl
§ a mixing spoon (wooden is best)
§ a measuring cup
§ 2 baking pans or cookie sheets
§ 2 clean dish towels, to cover the loaves on the way home

- Softball Challenge: New game date! We were rained out last Sunday, but the game is on for Sunday, September 19 between Woodstock Jewish Congregation and Temple Emanuel. Plan to play or just come out and cheer on our all-stars. This promises to be a great day of fun for everyone!
