One of the privileges of membership is the opportunity to serve on committees.
Committees actively looking for new members:
Program – Plans Jewish cultural events such as theatre, dance, music, film and poetry. Members of the committee plan events that appeal to them. If you have enthusiasm or ideas, please be involved. Contact the synagogue office to volunteer 679-2218
Holiday – A fun way to learn about the holidays with others and plan ways to celebrate them at WJC, members of this committee can choose their favorite holidays for which to plan. Contact: Sue Lipkins 679-4453, suelipkins@gmail.com
Fundraising Events – Plans events to raise funds for the synagogue. This committee is currently without a chair, but continues its work with great event chairpeople. If you are interested in chairing this committee or working on a specific fundraising event, please contact Karen Tashman 679-2218, karen@wjcshul.org
Membership – Is the liaison with the members, welcomes new members, plans the New Member Shabbat, creates the membership directory, and finds new and interesting ways for members to feel welcome and involved. Contact: Diane Colello 246-0929, dianec@reelizations.com
Chevra Kadisha – A group of people who provide support for mourners in the congregation, however it’s needed. Contact: Dena Crane 246-0177, denatova@webjogger.net
High Holy Days – There are lots of things you can do before and/or during the Holiday Services. The volunteer effort is key to the success of the High Holy Day experience. To volunteer, Contact: Gwen Tapper 679-7673, gwen@thetappers.com
Chesed Circle – This is an opportunity to give and receive support from within our community, our “family.” Volunteer commitments can range from writing get-well cards to hospital visits to running errands for a family celebrating a simcha to fulfilling real needs for members in crisis. School Committee – Is a group of volunteers who actively participate in the activities and running of the family school. Contact: Lee Wind 247-0127, leewind@recoursa.com

Home Hospitality - Please open your home to newcomers to the area. There’s nothing like sharing a meal – either a Shabbat dinner or Passover Seder. Let Karen Tashman know if you’d like to do a mitzvah and be a host occasionally. Contact: Karen Tashman 679-2218 ext.2, karen@wjcshul.org
Hebrew Tutoring - Tutor 4th-6th graders, in small groups, one hour a week on Tuesday afternoons. All levels of Hebrew knowledge needed. Also needed are bar/bat mitzvah mentors. Contact: Julie Makowsky 679-2218 ext.6, Julie@wjcshul.org.
Mailings - We always need help getting mailings out. Please e-mail Sandi Armstrong, info@wjcshul.org if you’re willing to help out occasionally.
Soup Kitchen - The synagogue needs volunteers to run the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen in Woodstock every September and December. Volunteers are needed 3:30-6:00pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Help one day or several. Contact: David Marell 657-2969, dmarell@hvc.rr.com.
