GRIEF CIRCLE: Mindful Death and Grief

Embracing Impermanence through Buddhist and Jewish Wisdom

How can turning toward the reality of death enrich our relationship with life?

This workshop offers a safe, sacred space to explore the profound landscape of endings, loss, and impermanence. Drawing from the intersections of Buddhist practices and Jewish traditions, we will delve into the Upajjhatthana Sutta (The Five Remembrances) to cultivate a conscious awareness of life’s fleeting nature. Moving from contemplation to communal practice, we will hold a supportive heart-circle grounded in Francis Weller’s transformative work, “The Five Gates of Grief.” Together, we will honor the multi-layered nature of grief, not as a pathology to be fixed, but as a sacred threshold to be shared. Through textual learning, mindfulness, and shared ritual, we will learn to embrace the fluid nature of our lives, finding deep meaning, community, and freedom in the face of what lies beyond.

This three hour circle includes:

  • Sharing in a safe and confidential space
  • Writing to listen to the voice within
  • Meditation to return to presence and the body
  • Ritual and refection to honor what is moving in us
