Please join us for this very special Kabbalat Shabbat evening. The ensemble will weave us in and out of songs to welcome Shabbat, with stories from each of their traditions; some songs they’ll sing for us, and some we’ll chant together. It will be an evening of togetherness and transportive sounds of healing and beauty to move our souls and make prayers for the great heart of the world.
Lala Tamar, born in Israel to Moroccan and Brazilian lineages, returned to Morocco to immerse herself in the music and rhythms of her grandmother’s home in the Atlas mountains. She performs this repertoire with tremendous beauty, grace and power, touring internationally and throughout Morocco. Yacouba Sissoko is a 70th djeli, a musician and wisdom keeper from Mali. His instrument, the African harp, called kora, is incredibly enchanting. Zachi (Rabbi Zach Fredman) performs on the oud, the Arabic ancestor of the lute.
