All self-identified women are welcome to join us to bring in the month of Nisan. Nisan is a month of liberation, growth, and renewal. Join us to explore these topics.
The celebration of Rosh Chodesh (the new month) is announced in synagogue each month with a special prayer, naming the new month and what day or days it will start on.
In the WJC Rosh Chodesh group all women have the opportunity to meet together to engage more fully in the process of acknowledging darkness while reaching toward light. The celebration of the new moon is described beautifully in this excerpt from Marge Piercy:
We greet the moon that is not gone
but only hidden, unreflecting, inturned
and introspective, gathering strength to grow
as we greet the first slim nail paring
of her returning light. Don’t we understand
the strength that wells out of retreat?
By learning about each month in the Hebrew calendar and their holidays through meditation, song, creative expression, and prayer, we build deep connections. Our group has a long history at the WJC, led by members as well as RRC rabbinic interns in the past. Last month we were blessed to welcome Arielle Aronoff as our new leader. Arielle is the lead teacher of the Family School, a trained outdoor Jewish educator, and a rising Kohenet. She fits right into the spirit of our welcoming group. Arielle is eager for any contributions to or sharing of the leadership each month.
We will begin using a hybrid model for future meetings, returning to the cozy shul library while simultaneously interacting with people on Zoom. The Rosh Chodesh group is for all women on a drop-in or regular basis. You can be part of our meaningful sharing and let your inner light shine even brighter.
